About Me

I’m interested in everything, which is an important skill if you move often-- and I do! Since I was born, I’ve lived in Missouri, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri again, Oklahoma, New Jersey, Ohio, North Carolina, Ohio again, New York, and now I’m headed to Indiana (again). I’ve experienced the Pine Barrens, the Outer Banks, the Adirondacks, and the Prairie, and come to love each place. I derive much inspiration from these distinct and beautiful regions.

I married a photojournalist who liked the way I bowled (badly, with inexplicable outstanding moments). I taught in public schools for a number of years, but these days, our three children and I are off on our own adventures: homeschooling, and homesteading. We have lots of animals around: a dog, two cats, turkeys, ducks and chickens. If there’s a vegetable you like, we’ve probably grown it. Hate? Likewise.

I read all sorts of books...I was one of the kids who liked just about everything I was assigned to read in school, although I didn’t realize some of it was funny until I was an adult. But I’ve always gravitated toward books with magical or speculative elements, as a child and an adult, a writer and a reader. I love to dabble in the possible. It renews my hope in the now.
